Turin was the first capital of a unified Italy and has a long history of secularism, so it was an appropriate venue for a gathering of Humanists from the European Humanist Federation (EHF) and the International Humanist and Ethical Union on 16 June 2007.

IHEU’s 2007 General Assembly was held in Torino (Turin) Italy on 17/18 June following the European Humanist Federation’s GA and a one-day conference on Secularism and Civil Rights.

I had hoped during 2006 to be able to involve our Member Organisations more in the daily work of IHEU. I am afraid we didn’t succeed.

The European Humanist Professionals has announced a workshop on humanist practices to be held on Friday 15 June 2007, from 9.00 to 12.30 at the Hotel Royal in Turin. Participants at the IHEU and EHF General Assemblies and the colloquium ‘Secularism, civil rights and neutrality of Public Institutions: comparison of experiences in an intercultural Europe’ are welcome to attend the workshop. Participation is free.

The IHEU General Assembly 2007 will be held in Torino (Turin), Italy, on Sunday 17th June 2007 (10.00 am to 5.30 pm) and on Monday 18th June 2007 (9.00 am to 1.00 pm). The IHEU GA will be held after the European Humanist Federation 2007 GA. We now have full details of the programme and agenda available.

Member Organisations are asked to note that there will be no hard copies sent out. Delegates will need to print out and bring with them the papers provided here.

The 2007 IHEU General Assembly (GA) is to be held in Torino (Turin) Italy on Sunday 17 and Monday 18 June 2007. The official notice was sent out on 18 February and again on 1 March and 12 March. Registration forms for the GA must be received by 16 May at the latest.

A Forum was organised under the High Patronage of the President of the Italian Republic and the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, in the framework of the consultation on the White Paper on a European Communication Policy.

EMPOWER brought together 300 senior representatives of civil society and NGOs from 25
Member States, Bulgaria, and Romania.

The aim of the Forum was to provide the European Commission with concrete proposals on how to promote a European public space where citizens are better informed and engaged in EU policies and in the debate on the future of Europe.

Daraufhin, am ersten internationalen Tag der Erinnerung an die Opfer des Holocaust wenden wir uns an die Staaten, um die Berufung der Konvention bzg. des Vermeidens und der Bestrafung des Massenmordes und um den Praesidenten der Islamischen Republik von Iran vor das Internationale Kriminelle Gericht zu bringen.

Dnia 18 listopada 2005 sędzia Luigi Tosti (57 lat) został skazany przez sąd w Aguila (ok. 100 km od Rzymu) na 7 miesięcy więzienia w zawieszeniu na 1 rok za to, że odmawia wykonywania funkcji sędziego w salach sądowych, w których wisi krzyż.

Sędzia Tosti opiera się na Konstytucji Republiki Włoskiej z 27 grudnia 1947 roku, która stanowi, że „wszyscy obywatele są równi wobec prawa niezależnie od płci, rasy, języka i religii (art. 3) ale okólnik faszystowskiego ministra Rocco z 1926 roku, nigdy nie uchylony przez żaden z późniejszych rządów, nakazuje, żeby krucyfiks był widoczny w sądach włoskich.

Op 15 Augustus 2005 beweerde paus Benoit XVI in een toespraak " het is belangrijk dat god zichtbaar is in de publieke en de private gebouwen, dat god aanwezig is in het publieke leven, en de aanwezigheid van het kruis in de publieke instellingen.
