Vatican Condemned at UN for Child Abuse

Geneva, March 16, 2010 -- The Vatican’s record on child abuse was criticized today at the United Nations Human Rights Council. Highlighting the Vatican’s repeated and ongoing efforts to cover up evidence of child abuse by priests, the International Humanist and Ethical Union (IHEU) accused the Vatican of violating its obligations under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC).

Prof. Carl-Johan Kleberg, former Chairman of the Swedish Humanist Association, presented this report to the 1st Baltic Humanist Conference in Stockholm. Based on a study of 11 Nordic countries – Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Russia and Sweden, it makes a series of recommendations viz.

30 to 80 young people between the age of 15 and 26 (Camp-leaders of the age up to 45) from Humanist Associations from The Baltic Republics, Poland, Germany, Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Iceland.

Der Aufruf des Iranischen Praesidenten zur Zerstoerung des Staates Israel entgegen des Artikels 2:4 der Verfassung der U.N. verlangt eine harsche Reaktion der internationalen Gemeinschaft. Daraufhin, am ersten internationalen Tag der Erinnerung an die Opfer des Holocaust wenden wir uns an die Staaten, um die Berufung der Konvention bzg. des Vermeidens und der Bestrafung des Massenmordes und um den Praesidenten der Islamischen Republik von Iran vor das Internationale Kriminelle Gericht zu bringen.

Humanist, freethinker, intellectual, iconoclast and fierce critic of Islam, Bangladeshi Prof. Humayun Azad, 57, was found dead in his University residence in Munich, Germany on 11 August 2004.
Prof. Azad came to the world's attention when he was grievously wounded in an attack by Islamic fundamentalists in Dhaka in February 2004. The attack followed publication of his novel Pak Sar Jamin Saad Baad, which exposed the Islamic fundamentalists in his country.
