It's your turn: call for articles

Do you have anything interesting to say to our readers? Have you had a personal experience that has strengthened your belief in Humanism? Have you ‘converted’ anyone? Is there anything going on in your part of the world that you think others would like to hear about? Are there organisations out there that have found something path breaking in the course of their work? Then do send in to the IHN at your write-up of not more than 1000 words, and, subject to suitability we will publish it in the May 2008 issue of the International Humanist News.

Libre Pensée condemns Council of Europe

IHEU member organization Libre Pensée has condemned the decision of the Council of Europe to reject Guy Langagne’s report on the dangers of creationism in education, and has demanded that the report be placed on the agenda for the next meeting of the Council’s parliamentary assembly.

Job opportunity: IHEYO seeks Communications Officer

IHEU member organization IHEYO is seeking a Communications Officer - 20 hours or more per week.

The Communications Officer's primary task is to make the communication channels of IHEYO more vibrant. IHEYO is an international youth organisation that carries out international projects among young people in Europe, Asia, Africa and elsewhere.

International Liaison Committee of Atheists and Freethinkers multilingual website

The International Liaison Committee of Atheists and Freethinkers has now a multilingual website. Important contributions, such as the report of the World Congress of the Freethought (Paris - 4 July, 2005) are published on-line. Articles from advocates of the separation of Religions and the State living in different countries on many continents are also available.

The Humanist Society of Scotland launches its Darwin Day podcasts

The BBC does not allow secular thinkers on 'Thought For The Day' and is committed to keeping the slot religious. IHEU member organization The Humanist Society of Scotland affirms that morality and ethics are not the sole preserve of faith groups and so has decided to create and podcast its own Humanist TFTDs on www.thinkhumanist.org This will be available to every Humanist organisation throughout the world. The aim is both to offer an alternative to religious morality and to show the BBC and the public that Humanists can be equally, if not more, thought provoking than religious thinkers, when tackling moral and ethical issues.

UK Labour Party Humanist group to be launched

A new Labour Humanist Group will be launched later this month. It aims to spread awareness of Humanism and Humanists within the Labour Party and to promote Humanist and Labour values, and facilitate a community for Labour Humanists.

The group is working on meeting the requirements to become an official affiliate of the UK Labour Party and a web site has been launched as a source of information on the group's activities.

Appeal of the French Estates General for Secularism

On the initiative of IHEU member organization Libre Pensée, a meeting of the Estates General for Secularism was convened in Paris on 9 December 2006. The Estates General discovered that over €10m a year is being diverted from public funds to the churches, in contravention of the 1905 French law of separation of church and state.

“The Republic does not recognize, does not salary nor subsidize any religion” (Article 2 of the Law of 9 December 1905)

How to visit Kenya and HEUK

Humanism to Mombasa : Project Nabuur Travel

Mombasa is the second largest city in Kenya, lying on the Indian Ocean. It has a major port and an international airport. The city is the centre of the coastal tourism industry. The original Arabic name is Manbasa; in Kiswahili it is called Kisiwa Cha Mvita (or Mvita for short), which means "Island of War", due to the many changes in its ownership. The town is also the headquarters of Mombasa District which, like most other districts in Kenya, is named after its chief town.
