International Humanist Award for IHEU President
Levi Fragell, IHEU President, was given the Council for Secular Humanism's World Humanist Award for his signal contribution to the development of humanism around the world. The award ceremony took place at the gala evening of the Council for Secular Humanism's successful annual conference, Why does Religion Persist? in Chicago, May 1999. While in the US, Levi Fragell visited the Freedom from Religion Foundation, and established informal contacts with the organisation.Levi Fragell will also attend the World Parliament of Religions (December 1 - 8, 1999; Cape Town) in South Africa. About 10,000 participants are expected to participate in the events, and a Parliament of 300 spiritual leaders, scholars and activists will be convened. The Parliament will deliberate on A Call to Our Guiding Institutions a document addressed to the world's most influential 'guiding institutions'. Levi Fragell has been invited to be an Observer Delegate to the Parliament, and will join the select list of 80 representatives of the 'guiding institutions'.
