New Co-President
NEW CO-PRESIDENT: Vern Bullough
THE NEWLY elected co-president of IHEU, who will replace Paul Kurtz, will be Vern Bullough. Vern Bullough is a Senior Editor of the American humanist journal Free Inquiry, the magazine of the Council for Democratic and Secular Humanism (USA). He is a former State University of New York (SUNY) Distinguished Professor of History and former Dean of Natural and Social Sciences at SUNY College, Buffalo, New York, USA. He is currently a visiting professor at the University of Southern California.
From 1980 through 1993 Bullough made his home in Buffalo, New York, where he participated in the development of Free Inquiry magazine. He and his wife Bonnie, former Dean of the School of Nursing at the State University of Buffalo, have now returned to their long-time home in Northridge, California.
Bullough has long been active in researching human sexuality and has published more than a dozen books in the area, plus numerous refereed and popular articles. He is past president of the Society for the Scientific Study of Sex. Recent books include Contraception: A Guido to Birth Control Methods and Women and Prostitution: A Social History, both with Bonnie Bullough, Sexual Practices in the Medieval Church, with James Brundage, and Frontiers of Sex Research, which he edited. All are published by the humanist publisher, Prometheus Books. His most recent book is Science in the Bedroom: A History of Sex Research (Basic Books, 1994).
