David Hume was one of the pivotal figures of the Enlightenment and, arguably, the greatest philosopher ever to write in English. He is especially relevant to us because Hume wrote more about philosophy of religion than any other philosophical subject and almost all of what he had to say was destructive.

We are raising funds for the restoration and conservation of the David Hume Mausoleum in Old Calton Burial Ground, Edinburgh. Today, more than ever before, we are called upon to defend the values of the Enlightenment - reason and tolerance - against superstition, a corrosive relativism and religious fanaticism. We believe that Hume's Mausoleum is of enormous importance to free thinkers throughout the world both as a symbol of Enlightenment values and a memorial to one of its greatest figures. The aim of this project is to ensure that this remarkable structure is preserved for future generations.
