Dr Mohammed Al-Bahadli (1956 – 2007)

In May 2007, Dr. Mohammed Al-Bahadli was killed in Baghdad by an explosion.

Dr Al-Bahadli was a very active and brave Humanist whose dream was to grow Humanism in Iraq. His loss is a tragedy for Iraq and the Humanist movement.

Born in 1956, he did his medical training at Basra University.

During his career, he studied autism and worked with autistic children.

From 2001 until 2003 he was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Iraqi Human Rights Organisation in Germany. He returned to Iraq out of a sense of duty to his country. He was preparing for the launch of the Al-Razi Centre, a proposed secular library for Baghdad, which was to have received funding from IHEU.

As well as taking an interest in all aspects of Humanism, he was a talented artist.

In 2002 he became a founder member of the National Organization of Civil Society and Iraqi Rights (Iraq of Tomorrow) and was a co-founder of Iraq Secular Humanists.
