The IHEU applauds the United Nations for celebrating 1968, as the International Year for Human Rights, in honour of the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It recognises the impetus that the United Nations has given to the securing of human rights through the convention produced under it aegis, the declarations which have stimulated nations and people to action to further human rights, and the plans formulated and carried out by various UN committees, functional commissions, specialised agencies, and non-governmental organisations.
