Towarzystwo Kultury Swieckiej (Culture Secular Society)
The society was founded in 1992 in reference to 100–year-old heritage of Polish secular thought and Polish secular movement. In 1998 the organization was named Tadeusz Kotarbiński’s Secular Culture Society. The patron of the Society – Tadeusz Kotarbiński – is one of the most prominent Polish philosophers, logicians and ethicians.
According to its memorandum the Society deals with the formation of national culture, especially its humanist, rationalist and secular values as well as with the promotion of the ideas of tolerance and freedom of conscience. Our members are mainly university lecturers, teachers and social activists. They belong to all generations, including pensioners as well as students and young research workers.
Tadeusz Kotarbiński’s Secular Culture Society issues a two-monthly magazine – “Res Humana”. The magazine presents humanist and rationalist ideas, secular culture as well as cultural and educational activity of both the Society’s National Board and its numerous branches in Bielsko-Biała, Bydgoszcz, Chełmno, Katowice, Konin, Koszalin, Cracow, Łódź, Puławy, Radom, Rzeszów, Wrocław and Warsaw. Another secular movement’s magazine is “Freethought Forum”, a quarterly of rationalists, issued by the Society’s branch in Cracow.
