Details:
Ni dieu, ni maitre, à bas la calotte et vive la Sociale!
Membership of the Libre Pensée is open to all who agree to respect its statutes - which include an undertaking not to practice religion nor to permit ones minor children to do so.
The Libre Pensée supports reason and science. It is not a party and is independent of all political parties. It is not a church and has no dogma. It aims to develop in everyone a spirit of tolerance and free inquiry.
Freethought regards religions as the worst obstacles to the emancipation of the mind. It judges them wrong in their principles and harmful in their actions. It condemns religion for dividing mankind and for turning it away from earthly objectives by encouraging superstition and fear of the beyond, of degenerating into clericalism, fanaticism, imperialism and commercialism, and for helping reactionary forces hold the masses in ignorance and servitude. The Libre Pensée condemns the pretence of religion to adopt the ideas of liberty, progress, science, social justice and peace, in order to re-establish its domination over the minds of men.
Holding that the emancipation of mankind must be pursued in every walk of life, the Libre Pensée reaffirms its will to fight side by side with all who espouse the same principles, against every idea, power or institution that seeks to diminish, enslave or pervert the individual; and its will to defend peace, liberty, human rights, secular education and the secular state.
Holding that all beliefs are worthy of critical examination, the Libre Pensee intends neither to impose nor to allow to be imposed any limit on its actions other than the pursuit of objective truth and humanity.
The Libre Pensée believes that Freethought offers its members, fraternally united in common action, the most effective means of personal improvement and collective renewal. It urges all progressives to forget their vain quarrels, and to work together for a morality based on reason, for happiness, and for human dignity and social justice.
The Libre Pensée is a federation that guarantees the freedom of action, opinion and administration of its affiliated groups and their members. There is an affiliated association of Freethinkers in most of the departments of France. Each association is freely administered according to its own statutes within the framework of our Declaration of Principles. Each association therefore has its own rules for admission.
