• Give statements to the Finnish government regarding to the law and give suggestions to press the government to change the law to be equal an uniform regardless to the religious/non-religious status i.e. the legislation needs secularisation

Areas of special interest

The Union publishes a journal: Vapaa Ajatus (The Freethinker) six times a year. Provides non-religious services for funerals, weddings, name giving and other rituals.

Vapaa Ajattelijain Liitto Ry, the Finnish Freethinkers Society, is an organisation devoted to the rights, legal protection and culture of non-religious people.

The social aim of the society is the separation of both of the Finnish state churches from the state.

The society and its member organisations aim to promote a scientific way of "looking at life", founded on a scientific world-view in which theory, knowledge and values can be logically explained.

As an idealistic society it carefully monitors both religion and false science and strives to free people from religious bondage through sensible argument.

The society aims to protect freedom of conscience, thought and religion. It promotes legal changes to ensure the freedom to be an atheist or non-religious and their equal treatment with all other citizens.

The Freethinkers Society is part of the international Freethought, Humanist, Secular, Atheist and Rationalist Movement.


Vapaa-ajattelijain liitto ry on uskonnottomien ihmisten etu-, oikeusturva- ja kulttuurijärjestö

Liiton yhteiskunnallisena tavoitteena on Suomen molempien valtiokirkkojen erottaminen valtiosta.

Liitto ja sen jäsenjärjestöt haluavat edistää tieteellistä maailmankatsomusta, joka pohjautuu tieteiden saavuttamaan kuvaan maailmasta ja jonka tietoteoria ja arvoteoria voidaan perustella järkiperäisesti.

Aatteellisena järjestönä liitto tarkastelee uskontoa ja valetieteitä
kriittisesti ja pyrkii vapauttamaan ihmiset uskontosidonnaisuudesta
järkiperäisen argumentaation keinoin.

Liitto tavoittelee täydellistä vakaumuksen-, ajatuksen- ja uskonnonvapautta. Liitto ajaa sellaisia lainsäädännöllisiä muutoksia, jotka turvaavat uskonnottomuuden ja ateismin vapauden sekä näiden katsomusten kaikenpuolisen tasa-arvoisen kohtelun muihin kansalaisiin nähden.

Vapaa-ajattelijain liitto on osa kansainvälistä vapaa-ajattelija-, humanisti-, sekularisti-, ateisti- ja rationalistiliikettä.
