In a series of statements to the UN Human Rights Council, IHEU has repeated its opposition to the concept of "defamation of religions", spoken out against the continued existence of slavery in Africa, condemned the practice of female genital mutilation and highlighted hate speech in Egyptian religious broadcasts.

The four statements were delivered, jointly with other NGOs, on 16 March 2009.
