Consensus of values in the European constitutional treaty
The EU states agreed on a treaty which preamble states: “ Drawing inspiration from the cultural, religious and humanist inheritance of Europe, from which have developed the universal values of the inviolable and inalienable rights of the human person, freedom, democracy, equality and the rule of law ..”
At the same time the treaty includes passages, which continue to grant the historically founded values in the member states as for example they are manifested in the concordats.
This discrepancy between pretension and reality we want to discuss in our seminar and define the actions needed to be started at the level of the EU more exactly. At the end it is intended to formulate an ethics which leads away from the moral faults of a so called world church to a world citizenship recognizing the human being as partner in and co-creator of the world and not as a representative of god on this earth.
An ethics starting with the human being needs a different view of the humane. The historically transmitted ethics lead the world into the financial and economic crisis. There will be no economic globalization without a global ethical consensus. Here we find big failures of the politics which cannot agree on common goals concerning an ecologically responsible economy within a limited world.
It is high time to renew our understanding of our values as directed by the citizens themselves and to educate toward a world citizenship. This is a political task which should not be left to the so called world religions if the human being shall have a chance to survive.
With this seminar the DFW and EHF want to encourage a discussion from bottom up.
Speakers will include Renate Bauer, Volker Mueller, Horst Prem, and N.N. from EHF
