Stranded couple celebrates first Humanist wedding on Skype

In what is believed to be a global first, Humanist celebrant Caroline Black conducted a wedding over Skype this weekend. The Skype wedding was for a couple stranded in Dubai because of the volcanic ash cloud which has grounded flights across the world.

IHEU reports record number of visits to its web site

The IHEU web site www.iheu.org received more than 259,000 visits in July 2007. This was the first time that over 250,000 visits were made in a month. Created to promote and support international Humanism, the site now carries over 3,000 articles dating back to IHEU's foundation in 1952.

Africa Working Group (AWG), the regional arm of IHEU member organization IHEYO, coordinating the growth of Humanism in Africa, is organizing a nine-day e-conference to enable young Africans to discuss the fundamental issue of the advancement of Humanism in Africa. The online conference will be held in parallel with the IHEYO conference in Vijayawada, India: see also the conference announcement.

Founded a year ago, AWG has watched with keen interest the zeal with which young Africans promote the ideals of Humanism through their activities, amidst crass religiosity. To assist them in achieving more, IHEYO is poised to utilize the partnership and collaboration tools of organizational growth and development, to achieve our common goal of popularizing Humanism in Africa.
